Marina + Steven's Steam Whistle Brewery Wedding

An interview with bride #116

We got married on Friday, October 4 at Steam Whistle Brewing in Toronto, and it was hands down, the most amazing and epic dance party!

We had done our first look earlier in the day (cue the waterworks!) and we made sure all our photos were done before the ceremony so that we could enjoy the cocktail hour with our family and friends. Our ceremony was light and brief and included readings from Dr. Seuss and Adam Sandler.

For our walk into the reception we walked right into our First Dance (Perfect by Ed Sheeran - 2019 wedding song of the year). However, we had a special surprise in store for our guests. Along with our DJ, we mixed an 8 song number that included a dance routine we choreographed and had been practicing for three months!

We had put a lot of effort into making our wedding personal to represent our easygoing style. Our centrepieces included growlers that we collected from our travels to different breweries, we had brewed beers as favours, each song and seat was curated by the bride and groom, and our thank you notes included photos of us with each of the tables.

We also made sure to have a photo booth with lots of props, a popcorn station instead of cake, and McDonald's and a cereal bar as our late-night station.

From the venue, to the food, to the music, not a single person left disappointed. Three months later, we're all still talking about the best day ever! :)

Describe your wedding day in 3 words.
Love, laughs, and dancing!

What's one thing that your wedding day HAD TO have.
DANCING! Delicious food and lots of beer!

What's one thing you could've done without?
Honestly, nothing. Everything had its place and purpose and worked perfectly together.

Tell us about your bridal style.
I am a sneaker and leather jacket kind of girl, so before I knew what dress I was wearing, I had already purchased my Keds (Kate Spade Sparkles!) and had reserved #TheJustMarriedJacket.

When it came to my dress, I knew I wanted to get my dress from the Modern Bride (in Guelph, ON) because of their contemporary selection of designers and dresses. My husband's favourite feature of mine is my behind, so I wanted a dress that would hug me and compliment me. I found my dress on my first appointment, and only the fourth dress that I tried on - the Drail by Pronovias. My mom is a designer, so she ended up bedazzling my dress with over 500 Swarovski stones.

For my accessories, I wanted to keep it simple as my dress had a lot of beautiful details. I ended up going with chandelier earrings from Modern Bride and a pearl bracelet from Winners.

My favourite part of our wedding look was that my husband wore an all-white tux (his idea).

How did #TheJustMarriedJacket fit into your day?
I can wear a leather jacket any day of the year, no matter what the temperature is. I love the way a leather jacket can dress down or dress up any outfit, and the way a leather jacket can hug a woman's figure. #TheJustMarriedJacket made me feel like myself - relaxed, fun and badass.

My favourite part of the jacket? All the badass women that had worn it on their wedding days before me. Throughout the night, I called it the "Sisterhood of the Travelling Wedding Jacket" - it's amazing how well it fit, how soft it was, and how it smelled so good! I also really appreciated having the jacket for a few days after the wedding, I had to make good use of it and wore it to let the world know that I'm a Missus! :)

What's your advice for future brides?
Enjoy EVERY moment - the engagement, the planning, the night before, the morning of, the actual wedding, and the days afterwards! There is no better feeling than calling your best friend, your husband/wife.
