Sarita and Dan's Relaxed City Wedding
Fun, Relaxed, Perfect!
Sarita was the one who originally suggested that #thejustmarriedjacket brides all get individual blog posts. She's a smart gal, that one! When schedules started to get tight between wedding dates, she was cool enough to meet directly with the bride that had borrowed the jacket just before her (check out Riya's wedding here!). And now read on to hear her wedding story in her own words:
Since we were only doing the first look at 3:30 pm we had ample time to get ready. I went over to my sister's Airbnb to get ready with my two sisters and my mom and Dan stayed at our place to get ready with his groomsmen and father.
It was clear the rain wasn't going to let up, which was slightly disappointing but we felt so grateful that the ceremony and reception were all indoors. Dan and I had a really fun first look under an overpass. The rain made for really great photos! After an hour of taking pictures, manoeuvring my dress, bouquet and an umbrella I just embraced the rain, which meant my hair fizzled out by the time I got to the venue haha!
We were early on our schedule so I had time to fix my hair up in the venue's greenroom. Waiting for guests to arrive, Dan and I and our immediate family hanging out in the greenroom. Next thing you know, my poor 3 year old nephew fell down 3 steps and cut his lip and cheek. It was very alarming as he had cut the inside of his mouth and was bleeding quite a bit... my cousin is a doctor so he had a look at him to make sure he didn't need stitches. He was supposed to walk me down the aisle but that didn't happen! Poor little guy stayed at the back of the room with a bag of ice on his mouth. We all took a few minutes to compose ourselves and proceeded with the ceremony. It was perfect!
The front of the room where the ceremony was happening made for a really cozy feel being surrounded my our nearest and dearest.
After that, Dan and I got to sit at a table just the two of us and listened to the amazing speeches and inhaled a super yummy dinner while people brought us drinks!! We kept it simple and had our first dance after dinner which then opened up the dance floor. That's where we were the whole night! It was just the funnest!
Since the venue was so close to home, we ended up walking home at the end of the night which was a perfect way to cap it all off!
Our two main things we really wanted was an open bar and a kickass dance party!
We really didn't have many frills, I did my own hair and makeup, we didn't hire transportation since the venue was so close to home, we kept the decor minimal, we didn't do an intro into the room, garter toss, bouquet toss, parent dance, no wedding favours, not even a hotel room for the night! The only minor thing I would change is during the first dance, we should have asked our MCs to ask everyone to join us half way through the song. I felt a little on the spot dancing to such an emotional song in front of our friends and family.
My bridal style: Down to earth, relaxed, unconventional, boho with a modern twist. Low key was really the theme of our wedding and so was my style. I originally wanted a red gown but didn't find anything I loved. I never thought I would actually end up in a white gown but the dress I found was perfectly different than most bridal gowns.
Advice for future brides:
Just remember that it's one day so spend your energy enjoying every minute instead of fussing over details no one will notice. Make sure you eat, drink water and have at least 10 minutes alone with your official new partner! Simply put, just have a great time!
