Kelly and Michael's Wedding at the Storys Building
An interview with Bride #43
Mike and I really wanted to keep the wedding true to who we are. We both have busy jobs, so keeping the wedding stress free and laid back was our style. Our hope was that everyone just had a chance to relax and have a fantastic time. There was no theme or colour scheme, it all just came together at the end. We went for simple and classic.
Our philosophy was that if we had good food, good beverages and good music, then we can't go wrong - and it worked. We kicked off the festivities at 5:30pm for a sundown wedding and went right into cocktails, dinner and dancing. We wanted to have as much time to spend with everyone as possible, so we snuck in our city photoshoot before things got wild and was it ever cold!!!
The jacket was something that caught my eye well before we even had a venue! I love a good leather jacket and when I read the stories of the other brides who wore it, it was inspiring and I just loved the story. I remember telling people about the jacket before the wedding happened and I honestly think it kept me from going too crazy with the dress, the hair, etc. It's so easy to get caught up with all of it, but thinking about the jacket it reminded me to keep it simple.
What's one detail your wedding had to have?
McDonalds as our late night food! (who doesn't love a good cheeseburger at midnight?)
What's something you could have done without?
Despite being super beautiful, the cake. Nobody knew about it or had a chance to eat a piece! It was so pretty though.
Tell us about your bridal style:
Classic chic. I wanted something simple, but I guess my dress wasn't overly simple! haha. My dad who isn't a man of many words even commented on it. I guess it was somewhat vintage in the end. I didn't wear a veil. I like them, but I just didn't see myself wearing one, so I added in a beautiful comb with pearls and crystals on it.
What's your advice for future brides?
Just be yourself. There are so many opinions and comments and at times it feels like everyone has a hand/voice in your wedding. It all comes from the right place, but trust your gut. If you feel like doing something and people just don't get it, do it anyway. It's your day, make it your own and stay true to you.
